The Medicare Child Dental Benefit scheme started in January 2014.
Under this scheme, eligible children receive government payments towards their dental treatment to the value of $1,000 over 2 consecutive years. As our practice participates fully, we do not charge any further amount and so the treatment is entirely free for eligible children.
We are delighted to participate in this program to help the young people in our community develop healthy dental habits. Our full participation in this initiative means that your child receives free treatment to the value of $1000 at no cost to you.
To be eligible, children need to be aged between 2–17 years of age, have Medicare entitlements and receive (or their family, guardian or carer receives) certain government benefits such as Family Tax Benefit Part A.
If you do not use all of your $1,000 benefit in the first year of eligibility, you can use it in the second year. Any remaining balance will not be carried forward at the end of the second year.
Benefits will cover a range of services including examinations, x-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, and extractions. Benefits are not available for orthodontic treatment and cannot be paid for any services provided in a hospital.
To find out if your eligible please contact Medicare on 132 011 or contact our practice for inquiries.
